Continue through the palm oasis of Tinghir and the towering Todra Gorge before reaching Merzouga, gateway to the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Ride a camel into the Sahara at sunset, enjoy dinner and traditional music at a desert camp, and sleep beneath one of the clearest night skies in Morocco.
The return journey follows a different southern route through Rissani, Alnif, the Draa Valley and Ouarzazate, allowing you to experience more of Morocco rather than repeating the same road.
Tour Program
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Aït Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Skoura – Rose Valley – Dades Valley
Your Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour begins with an early pickup from your hotel or riad. Meet your private driver and leave Marrakech behind as the road climbs into the magnificent High Atlas Mountains.
Travel through traditional mountain villages and cross the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, situated at approximately 2,260 metres above sea level. Several panoramic stops can be made along the route to photograph the valleys, mountain peaks and colourful Berber settlements.
Continue toward Aït Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most impressive examples of southern earthen architecture. This UNESCO-listed ksar is formed by historic mud-brick houses, defensive towers and narrow passageways built into the hillside.
You will have time to walk through the fortified village, learn about its history and enjoy panoramic views from its upper sections. Aït Ben Haddou has also appeared in numerous international films and television productions.
After lunch, continue to Ouarzazate, often called the Gateway to the Sahara. Depending on your interests and available time, you may stop near Taourirt Kasbah or visit one of the city’s film studios.
The journey then continues through the palm-filled Skoura Oasis, an area known for its kasbahs and traditional farming communities. Pass through Kalaat M’Gouna and the Valley of Roses, where local cooperatives produce rose water, oils and natural cosmetic products.
Arrive in the Dades Valley in the late afternoon. Before reaching your accommodation, enjoy scenic stops overlooking the valley’s kasbahs, rock formations and winding roads.

Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Tinghir Oasis – Erfoud – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi Desert Camp
After breakfast, depart the Dades Valley and continue along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs toward Tinghir.
Stop at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the Tinghir palm oasis, where green fields and date palms contrast beautifully with the surrounding dry mountains.
Continue to the spectacular Todra Gorge, one of the most impressive natural landmarks in southern Morocco. Walk through the canyon beneath towering limestone cliffs that rise dramatically on both sides of the road.
The Todra Gorge is a popular destination for hikers and rock climbers, but its accessible walking area also allows visitors to enjoy the scenery without completing a difficult trek.
After free time for photographs and exploration, continue through a changing landscape of desert plateaus, small towns and oasis communities. Pass through Tinjdad and Erfoud, a town known for fossils, dates and stone workshops.
In the afternoon, arrive in Merzouga, located beside the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi.
Your luggage will be transferred to the camp, and you will meet your camel caravan for a memorable ride across the Sahara dunes. Travel slowly through the sand while the afternoon light changes the colour of the desert.
Stop on a high dune to watch the sunset before continuing to your desert camp.
At the camp, enjoy Moroccan tea, settle into your private tent and have a traditional dinner. Later, gather around the campfire for local drumming and Berber music beneath the Sahara night sky.

Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Nkob – Draa Valley – Agdz – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
Wake early to watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. The morning light creates beautiful colours across the Sahara and offers one of the best photography moments of the journey.
After breakfast at the camp, return to Merzouga village by camel or 4×4 vehicle.
Begin the journey back to Marrakech through Rissani, an important former caravan-trading centre and the historic capital of the Tafilalt region. On local market days, a short visit may be possible depending on the schedule.
Continue through the rugged landscapes around Alnif and Nkob, passing acacia trees, rocky plains, isolated villages and views of the Anti-Atlas Mountains.
The road then reaches the spectacular Draa Valley, one of Morocco’s largest palm-oasis regions. The valley is lined with date palms, adobe villages, traditional kasbahs and old agricultural communities.
Pass through Agdz, overlooked by the distinctive Jbel Kissane mountain, before continuing toward Ouarzazate.
After a lunch stop, cross the High Atlas Mountains once again and return to Marrakech in the evening. Your driver will drop you off at your hotel, riad or another agreed location.
