3-Day Private Desert Tour from Marrakech to Erg Chegaga

Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Aït Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate → Agdz → Draa Valley → Zagora → Tagounite → M'Hamid → Erg Chegaga → Lake Iriki → Foum Zguid → Taznakht → Marrakech

Escape the crowds and discover Morocco’s most authentic desert on this 3-day private Sahara Desert tour from Marrakech to Erg Chegaga.

Unlike the more visited dunes of Merzouga, Erg Chegaga offers a truly remote desert experience where towering golden dunes stretch for over 40 kilometres without roads, hotels, or villages. This journey combines spectacular mountain scenery, UNESCO World Heritage sites, lush palm oases, ancient caravan routes, and an exciting off-road adventure across the untouched Sahara.

Travel through the High Atlas Mountains, explore the legendary Aït Ben Haddou, follow Morocco’s longest oasis in the Draa Valley, pass through Tagounite and M’Hamid—the last village before the Sahara—and venture deep into the desert by 4×4. Ride camels across the dunes at sunset, enjoy traditional Berber hospitality, and spend an unforgettable night beneath one of the clearest star-filled skies in the world.

Tour Program

Your adventure begins with an early pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. Leaving the bustling city behind, you’ll travel into the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains, crossing the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), the highest mountain pass in Morocco. Along the way, enjoy panoramic viewpoints overlooking dramatic valleys, traditional Berber villages, and stunning mountain landscapes.

Leaving the main road, you’ll take the scenic route to Kasbah Telouet, once the magnificent palace of the powerful Glaoui family, known as the “Lords of the Atlas.” Although partially in ruins, the kasbah still showcases beautifully decorated rooms, intricate zellige tilework, carved cedar ceilings, and offers a fascinating glimpse into Morocco’s rich history.

Continue through the beautiful Ounila Valley, a hidden gem lined with traditional Berber villages and ancient kasbahs, before arriving at the legendary Aït Ben Haddou, Morocco’s most famous fortified village and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander through its narrow alleys, admire its remarkable earthen architecture, and discover why it has been featured in world-famous productions such as Gladiator, Game of Thrones, The Mummy, and Kingdom of Heaven.

Enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch in Aït Ben Haddou, with views of the historic ksar before continuing your journey.

In the afternoon, travel through Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Morocco,” passing the famous Atlas Film Studios before entering the spectacular Draa Valley, Morocco’s largest palm oasis. Stretching for more than 100 kilometres, this fertile valley is dotted with ancient kasbahs, traditional mud-brick villages, and millions of date palms, creating one of the country’s most beautiful landscapes.

Arrive in the peaceful oasis town of Agdz, nestled between the Anti-Atlas Mountains and the lush Draa Valley, where you can relax after an unforgettable first day.

Dinner & Overnight: Traditional riad or hotel in Agdz.

Here, the paved road ends.
